You should remember that when you ask a company to host or manage your site, that they do not tie you to them.
When you get your domain registered it should be to you, not the company managing the site for you. This is really important as it means that you are free to move without complications.
You actually don't need to do this. However, you should think about it. The reason is simple, in that, if you have the country domain for your business. E.g. widget.co.uk, and then someone else registers widgets.com. Your customers who you spend time, effort, money, and marketing on, may Google widgets, and see the other site first on the list of searches.
They may go to the wrong site, one you have no control over.
Admittedly these days there are so many different domain "ends"; .com, co.uk, .co, .photo, etc etc This could become an expensive thing.
So before you go registering every domain you can, think carefully about your market, your goals, and how you are going to get people to your site.

How many times have you received an email from someone saying "We guarantee to get you to the top of the first page of searches".
There is only one way to get you close to the top of the searches, and to maintain your position. It's called hard work. Companies such as Google regularly update the way they create the search algorithms (yes thats a geek thing). What is needed, is good content that is regularly reviewed, and updated. This is not a once only process.
We have people who are experienced in creating good content. They can take your content and craft it into content that will get noticed.
This doesn't happen over night either, its something that takes an indeterminate amount of time to achieve. But, you will start seeing the results when it's in process as you rise up the search pages.
It is something that can be measured.
